Meet Nancy

Nancy Petitto is a community leader and tireless advocate running to represent District 28 in the Nebraska Legislature.

Nancy has lived in Lincoln since 2001, when she moved to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her Bachelor of Journalism in News-Editorial and Master of Arts in Educational Administration with a focus in Higher Education Administration. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a reporter and editor for the Arts and Entertainment section at the student newspaper, the Daily Nebraskan, covering local art gallery exhibits, concerts, and feature stories.

Nancy currently directs a partnership between multiple organizations focused on creating lasting, meaningful, resident-led change in Lincoln’s core neighborhoods. As the program director, Nancy coordinates the team, initiatives, policy, and workflow. She focuses on maintaining strong community partnerships, building neighborhood leaders, supporting resident-driven neighborhood revitalization, and directs policy action steps of the initiative. Nancy and her team have collaborated with residents, city departments, and local elected officials over the last three years, researching and identifying policy initiatives that address the need for affordable and adequate housing in Lincoln.

Previously, Nancy worked at the University of Nebraska in academic, administrative, and research departments. In 2017, she joined the board of directors for GIRLPowR Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls in Lincoln, Nicaragua, and Jamaica through educational and leadership programs, and served as the board president from 2019-2021.

Following the first Women’s March in 2017, Nancy and her neighbors formed a grassroots community group that focuses on local political issues in order to make change and progress within the Lincoln community. Nancy is a Leadership Lincoln Fellows 35 graduate and currently serves on the Hot Topics committee.

Nancy enjoys cooking, practicing yoga, traveling with her husband Scott, and spending time with their dogs Frankie and Murphy.
